TRIGGER's return to Night City began with a search inside Cyberpunk 2077. Speaking to GamesRadar+, showrunner Bartosz Sztybor described director Kai Ikarashi exploring the game with a virtual camera to find settings that suited the story of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2.
Finding the scene inside the city
Sztybor said he leaves specific locations out of his scripts, trusting TRIGGER's familiarity with the game to guide those choices. His account puts location scouting at the centre of this part of the adaptation: the team searches an existing world for places where a scene can happen.
He compared Ikarashi's exploration to Roman, the new series' camera-carrying character. It is a fitting connection between a filmmaker choosing a view and a character trying to record the city around him.
Look at the framing
The promotional images offer a few things to look for. In one close-up, dark diagonal bars cross the foreground around a bright green eye. Elsewhere, a figure sits low in the frame beneath an aircraft and a red beam. Both images use the space around a character to give the shot its force.
Our reading of these frames is about composition: obstruction, scale and colour decide where the eye goes. The interview explains the location search, while the images let us look at the framing for ourselves.
The people behind the return
CD PROJEKT RED and TRIGGER are making the new standalone series with Kai Ikarashi directing, Kanno Ichigo leading character design, and Bartosz Sztybor and Masahiko Otsuka behind the story. A new cast gives this return to the same city a different set of people to follow.
The ensemble visual also has its own credited makers. CD PROJEKT RED names Ichigo Kanno for the original illustration, Yukiko Kakita for ink and color supervision, and Yuichiroh Tozawa for composition. Those credits belong to this promotional artwork, separate from the series' wider production roles.
When to watch
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 premieres exclusively on Netflix on October 20, 2026. CD PROJEKT RED describes it as a ten-episode standalone story. The artwork and stills below offer a closer look at the faces, colour contrasts and compositions of this next visit to Night City.
